Articles
Over the past few weeks we’ve been fortunate to enjoy some truly beautiful days. Although there is still a noticeable chill in the air, the brighter sunshine serves as a welcome reminder that spring is gradually approaching.
It has also been a pleasure to see the enthusiasm from both our new students and existing members. Many have been sharing their questions, thoughts, and early preparations for the months ahead. That growing sense of anticipation is always exciting, as it signals that the beekeeping season is just around the corner.
This time of year is perfect for getting equipment ready. Frames can be cleaned, hive parts checked, and everything prepared so that when the warmer weather finally arrives, you and your bees are ready to go. Even on colder days spent in the workshop or shed, these small preparations help build excitement for the season ahead.
Sometimes, when the weather still feels a little cold, it’s nice to watch bees already hard at work. Seeing their activity is a wonderful reminder of why so many of us look forward to this time of year. It reconnects us with the purpose and enjoyment that beekeeping brings.
As spring approaches, we can look forward to longer days, the first proper hive inspections of the year, and the opportunity to reconnect with our colonies after the winter break. There is always something special about that first moment when the hive is opened and you hear the steady, reassuring buzz of a healthy colony.
The tree in the picture above was sent to us by one of our new members and was absolutely full of bees.
Spring is nearly here, and with it comes another exciting season of beekeeping.
